SOCIAL MEDIA PRESSURES

Do you feel you need something but deep down you only want it because others have it? Do you only buy things because they are trending and not because you need it? Do you only buy things because you want to post a picture with it and not because you need it or even like it? I remember buying expensive sunshades because I saw them along my Instagram feed. NO, my eyes were not hurting from the sun, I just wanted to wear it and post on my IG, at least to look rich. The trend later washed off before I got the chance to wear it and so it still sits broken in my drawers till today.

We all do the same thing and funny enough, that’s the strategy companies use to sell their products. They know what is trending and so will produce more of it so you can buy, post up and look fabulous for a bunch of followers who would want to do the same thing.

This is also a false drive for people in life. They centre their future, not to reach their full potential or express their gifts and talents, but to live up to a virtual lifestyle. People would like to look a certain way, wear certain clothes, go certain places and even eat certain things, not because they like it but because they want to prove a fictitious lifestyle.

Imagine there was no social media, you would realise that a lot of things wouldn’t be in existence, positively and negatively. There will be no need to do certain things, there would be no need to look a certain way, there would be no unnecessary spending of money because there is no lifestyle to live up to and all you can and would need to do is express and take care of yourself and the people you love mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc.

Personally, I would recommend that you get off your phone for a minute and breathe, deep down you know you don’t need any of that. Get over the fake impressions and go create your own lifestyle, instead of being a photocopy. Be who you were made to be and set your personal, original and authentic mark on the earth.
